This is the movie-lovingest family I ever have met. I remember the first day I met Sarah, Marie, and Jana. We were leaving Travis and Heather's house and heading back to watch About A Boy at Sarah's apartment. Before we got into the car, Marie said to Sarah and Jana, "Watch this." and she jumped into the middle of the back seat, so David and I couldn't sit next to each other. Then the girls decided to play the movie game, where one person names a movie, then someone names an actor in that movie, then the next person names a different movie that same actor plays in, then someone names a different actor from that movie. Everytime it got to me, I had to pass. I had never heard of half of people or hardly any of the movies that came up. I was nervous, overwhelmed, and utterly convinced that his sisters hated me and that I would never ever fit in with this family.
As it turns out, I know absolutely nothing about movies. Most of the family has come to the point where they stop gasping at my utterance of the phrase, "I've never seen that movie before...", but there are a few rare exceptions (like with Mary Poppins... which David and Tyler quickly corrected for me). But the best part of this movie madness is how quickly they all memorize phrases from and sometimes even entire movies. Maybe I'm just a dumb dumb with short-term memory loss, but man. We'll go see a movie, and on the ride home, David and Tyler are quoting entire scenes from the movie and cracking each other up. I'm trying to convince them that they need to act out a movie for the talent portion of family reunion this year.
I love it when the siblings are all together. As it turns out, I think I do fit in pretty well with the family. I still can't play the movie game, but I seriously love just being with my siblings-in-law. I love the way they interact with one another. I basically could not have hand picked a better family to have married into.
Anyway, I can't wait till the gang's all back together in just a couple of weeks!
Man, this post made me grin and giggle like the little girl I am. :) I love you tons, Britney. And you do fit in incredibly well. I'm glad David found you. We should play the movie game while we're there.
ReplyDeletePS You really had never seen Mary Poppins? Dude. That's just.... sad. I'm glad the situation has been corrected.
Marrying into the Heywood family is kind of a culture shock. Nate's family isn't quite like his cousins' but we are huge on movies and quoting them.
ReplyDeleteI love that you mentioned "About a Boy". We saw that when we were dating and it is one of our favorites. We can probably quote the entire movie. I am having trouble refraining from doing so as I type! :)
Wish we lived closer to you!
We have the music in common, and that's all that matters.
