I really love my Pandora station. I feel the same way about it as David feels about Netflix. When Netflix predicts how well we (well, David) will like a movie, it's usually spot on. Well, my Pandora station sings me beautiful music that makes me happy while I work or clean or veg. Lately, however, I've been really just wanting to listen to my music, though. Like, when was the last time I listened to an entire album (besides the Anais Mitchell CD Jana gave us for Christmas, which I am still giddy over, btw)? I just really want to listen to aVampire Weekend or The Shins album (any of them because I really love all 3).
Oh, but speaking of The Shins, what the crap, James Mercer??? So when I found out from Marie that The Shins were releasing a new album in March, I was pretty freakin' excited. I had already considered them dead when James Mercer decided to "take a break" and do his whole Broken Bells thing (which I still haven't really listened to. Dang.). So this news of reunion and release of a new album brought me much joy and excitement! Except that James Mercer "fired" the other members of the band and brought in new people from other bands. Hmmm. I am left thinking that James Merer is actually kind of a db and I feel sad that I will never get to see the real The Shins in concert. I guess I can't judge them yet, and I absolutely am still going to buy the new CD, but dang.
Anyway, this has been a pointless rant. I'm really not even that affected by this whole "The Shins" business, but I'm just trying to blog more. So there you are. Now back to Pinterest.

Yeah, the Shins band switch-up is kind of a bummer, but I guess after such a long break maybe the other members found other projects to work on? As for Broken Bells, I highly recommend you give it a go! I love that CD so much. The Shins have kind of fallen off the radar as far as I'm concerned, I wish James Mercer would just start a new group and not give this new group of people the same name.
ReplyDeleteSo, have you listened to the Shin's new single? "Simple Song." It's not bad. But it's also not really the Shins. It doesn't sound like them at all. But it's good. Like how Broken Bells is good. I'm sad you didn't get to see the REAL Shins in concert. It was a great show.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you love "Hadestown" because it really is just an awesome album. "The Wall" is probably my favorite song. It's just so... ah! GOOD!
I really like their new song! But I agree with you and Sarah, they are just not the same. I loved the quirkiness of the original band. Broken Bells are good, though not an album I can listen to over and over. The first five songs are good, and then it gets boring. I'll make you a copy, if you want. Glad to see you blogging so much!! Love you!
