I am a house husband.

Well, sort of.

Here's the thing: Britney and I just moved to Fresno to attend Fresno State. Britney had a job lined up here and I did not. I thought that I would get hired at the tutoring center on campus because that's what I did in Bakersfield; and we had already spoken with the tutoring center coordinator here, and the whole situation seemed like it was going to work out. However, because of our summer jobs, we weren't able to make the move until the beginning of this month, and I guess by that time the positions were filled.

Now, I could look for another job, or I could do private tutoring or something. I did private tutoring in Bakersfield and was able to make pretty good money. But the honest truth is that I just don't feel like it. The following are my justifications for not getting a job:

1. I am a full-time student. Not working while going to school is a new experience for me, but there are lots of people that just do school. I mean, it's not like I just lay around the house all day, right?

2. It was Britney's idea. When Britney and I were discussing my options if I didn't get hired at the tutoring center, her idea was just for me not to work. The concept was completely foreign to me. In fact, I was a little offended for some reason, but the more I thought about it...well, here I am.

3. We can afford it. Between financial aid, savings from summer jobs, and Britney's job, we've got all the money we need. We're not even going into debt with student loans. Still, it seems a little odd that Britney's working and I'm not, but hey, we had a semester in Bakersfield when I worked and she didn't. So we're even.

4. I will work next semester. When I was informed that the positions for this semester had been filled, I was told that positions open every semester and that if I got my application in early, I would have a really good shot at getting hired.

So, for the next 4 months, I will be doing a lot of the cooking and cleaning, that is, if Britney will let me. She's tried my pizza rice before and wasn't very impressed.

To be honest, we've only had one week of school, but it's been so nice so far to just focus on school. I think I could get used to this...

  1. You've gotta be the cutest little house husband I've ever seen! And who are you trying to kid? You cook better than I do.

  2. House husbands are great to have around. Dad gets lots done in the summer. However he does not wear my "cute" aprons ;)

  3. This is genius and I love it. Personally, I would have LOVED not working while in school, but alas. I had only Pell grants and no scholarships. And I wasn't about to do loans, so I had to work. But I lived. I think it's great you can do this!

PS I do NOT hate you, Britney. I just choose to be here. On the other hand, I'm interested in learning about this job you've found for me... I'm waiting for your call. :)
