The institute: Free parking, full kitchen to prepare my lunch, quiet library to do my homework, and Sister Chambers' happy face greeting me. Man, I really will miss that place. So so so many good memories shared there with such good people. It's part of who I am.
The Tutoring Center: It's been a good job where I've met some really great people. I'm going to miss tutoring. I'm going to miss all of the sweet things that Katherine says and does for me. I'm going to miss talking with Sonia about food and make-up and the crazy tutors and insane people who come through the tutoring center.
Thompson Law Bug: It's like slug bug, but instead of slugging when you see a beetle, we slug when we see a Thompson Law ad (it was Sister Thompson's idea, though she was probably joking). They advertise on the side of one of the GET buses, which I see probably twice a day. They also have billboards and things up all over town. I love that game because I always beat David.
Knowing where everything is at: If someone asks me how to get to any given place on campus, I can totally give them directions. I know my way around BC so well (a little too well, probably). I remember feeling so lost and small my first semester at BC because I didn't know anything. I didn't know how to get anywhere or what I was doing, and I'm really not looking forward to that feeling again. I'm going to be an upperclassmen at Fresno State; I can't walk around aimlessly! I'm pretty sure I need to explore the campus in depth for the last couple of weeks before school starts just so I don't stick out like a loser.
Running into friendly staff members: I look forward to going to the BC library because I know I'll probably see President Russell. He is the nicest man. He always greets me by name and treats me like we're such good friends. He just makes me feel like I have an "in" with the faculty or something. He makes me feel important. I mean, who doesn't like to feel important, you know? And Rick Brantley, David's Calculus 2 professor... He's another one I'm going to miss. Brantley has helped David and I out so much with employment, reccomendations, and career decision making. He's just so thoughtful and he's hilarious. He's the type of guy that makes me determined to start sending out Christmas cards just so we can send him one with a note telling hom how much we appreciate him each year (I promise I will really send out Christmas cards this year, after 2 years of letting time get away from me... so disappointing, really). But I don't think Brantley is done helping us out. I have a feeling that in a few years, David will have the privilege of being one of Brantley's colleagues. Hopefully.
Our time as BC students has been good to us. There was laughter; there were tears. It was kind of fun, but it was extremely painful at times. There's no way to be sure how many nervous breakdowns I've had while I've been a student at BC, but I'd rather leave some things in the past (stupid freakin' debate class....). It's been a good run, Bakersfield College, but our time is (rather quickly) coming to an end. But don't worry; we'll be back for round two, except next time we'll finally be able to park in those coveted "Staff Only" parking zones (well, David will at least)!! Muahahaha!

I do hope I'm not still at BC when David teaches there. Although, it would rock to have him as a teacher.
ReplyDeleteAnd Brantley is the BEST! A great teacher and a great personality which is rare in a Math professor.
Also, congrats!!
