There's a 13-year-old boy in one of my classes. In the 2 hour class that meets 4 days a week, he makes an average of about 7 comments per class period, all of which have everything to do with online gaming, Manga comic books, or Japanese culture. He uses the phrases "as/and such" and "thus you see" about 13 times per comment, half of which are incorrectly and/or/especially excessively used. This is summer. The poor boy should be on play dates at Chuck E. Cheese's (where a kid can be a kid) instead of driving his classmates crazy in a college English course. Parents: please don't encourage your children to skip a couple of grades... or five grades. He doesn't quite fit in yet and will likely socially develop awkwardly. I don't care if he's smarter than me. It's just not natural.
